Construction workplace injuries declined in 2020

The nonfatal injury rate in construction declined to 2.5 per 100 workers in 2020 from 2.8 in 2019, and that reduction reflects “an affirmation that the industry’s continued focus on improving worker health and safety, supported by AGC and other groups, is working,” said AGC spokesperson Brian Turmail. The Bureau of Labor Statistics figures revealed a 13% drop in nonfatal injuries and illnesses in 2020, although illnesses in the pandemic-ridden year rose 67%.
